This image represents a bit of an experiment in terms of my workflow, as I used RawTherapee to perform the mono conversion. I still found it necessary to import the image into GiMP, to sort out contrast and add an overlay layer, so there wasn't any real saving of time or effort and I'm not sure about the overall effect, but here it is anyway.

Cabot Circus
Now that the lighter nights have arrived, the whole hanging around in Bristol waiting to go training thing has taken on a new aspect, in that I have to find something worth photographing in daylight.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I found my way to Brandon Hill Park, which surrounds Cabot Tower. On the first occasion, I arrived too late to go up the tower, so I returned the following week. This image was made from the lower viewing platform - I didn't make it to the upper platform - looking south east, I think. My knowledge of the geography of Bristol is a bit sketchy at best.

Grey Day at Greylake
After visiting the Burrow Mump, we went on to Greylake nature reserve. This image was made from the hide at the end of the reed bed circuit. Its one of those which I like, but I'm not sure about. Greylake is quite different in character to Shapwick and more difficult to photograph - I'm not convinced that I know how to, really.

Getting the Mumps
Bank holiday Monday found us at Burrow Bridge, on the Burrow Mump. As you can see, the day was overcast, so I've had to make the best that I can of the sky in post.
The Burrow Mump itself is a bit of a poor man's Glastonbury Tor - you can see Wirral Hill away to the north. We didn't hang about and went on to the RSPB reserve at Graylake, were I made some images which I'll post shortly.

Fifty Fifty Clown
After losing it slightly with my previous post, here we have an attempt pull things back with a slightly different take on the tulip theme. This time, the bloom in question is from our garden and the image was made hand-held using my Alpha 77.
I'm not convinced about the out-of-focus petal forming the lower half of the image, but the upper half is fine, and fifty percent of anything is good enough for me at the moment.

Needs Must
Yes, I know, yet another tulip.
I've made loads of images recently, and all of them have been mediocre at best. Normally, when I download a set of images from the camera I have a fair idea which I'm going to use. I then whittle down that group as I process them to arrive at the select few that make it onto this prestigious blog. Recently, that number has shrunk from a few to none.
Maybe my standards have risen, but its more likely that I've been producing poor pictures.
So, I've been forced to fall back onto this less than scintillating image, accompanied by the sound of a barrel being thoroughly scraped. For the record, this image was made at Dunster Castle over the Easter holiday.
