Return of the Tyntesfield Thunderbold

You made remember - or you may not - that a set of mono images made in the walled garden at Tyntesfield during a summer visit provided a whole series of posts for this blog last year.

Well, we returned this year, for what turned out to be a fairly unenjoyable visit. As if to echo this, the beds in the walled garden had gone over and seemed in need of some attention. With the rest of the family stomping about in a bad mood, photographic opportunities were limited.

In any case, I made this image, which I'm quite happy with. I struggled to decide between the mono or the colour version for this post, however my final decision was to go mono to fit in with the set that I created last year.

Fomat-itis

Yet another Tyntesfield image. I'm a bit anal about image formats - generally, I work with 3:2 or square and if I can't make the image fit one or the other, then I discard it. In, what is for me, a radical departure I've gone for 5:4 in this case. Enjoy.

Tyntesfield Thunderbolt

As noted elsewhere, we spent the recent Bank Holiday Monday at Tyntesfield. As it happened, the day was perfect for outdoor photography, with very little wind and hazy sunshine, which gave good light levels with few real shadows. The only fly in the ointment was that I had my Tamron super-zoom on the front of my Alpha 550, but I just made the best of it and produced some half decent images, like this one.

This was made whilst wandering round the formal garden which, as far as flower photography is concerned, is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. The result is a whole host of images which have a certain similarity to them - some photographers would call this a series. 

I'm undecided about what to do with them - one half of me wants to post each individually over the next few weeks whilst the other wants to composite them all into one and get it over with. Watch the space to see which half wins out.

Bottling It

We went to Tyntesfield on Bank Holiday Monday and followed the 'Pirate Trail' - how pirates and Tyntesfield are related is anyone's guess, but never mind - which took us to the stable block, where I made this image of a load of dusty brewing kit, all catalogued and labelled by the National Trust.
