Two more dahlia images from the Cannington Walled Gardens set.

Mono-Mania

I decided to post the mono version of the colour image from previous post, on the basis that I really like it.

On The Ball Dahlia

I like photographing dahlias, especially the ball variety shown below. 

I made both of these images at Cannington Walled Gardens and I've gone for a very different treatment of each. This is unusual, as I generally try to match images in an individual post.

Anyway, first up a mono image.

Now, a colour image.

I do have a mono version of this second image, which I also like - tbh, I think that this is much the stronger image of the two.

Get in the Kew: Dahlias

Yet another set of images from the Kew visit. The end is in sight, however.

Saltram Slam

Towards the end of August, and in an attempt to generate some more images to enter into the National Trust photography competition, we visited Saltram, near Plymouth. 

As it turned out, the trip was a bit of bust for the intended purpose, although I did make one image that I eventually submitted. But I did make some decent flower images. And, in the first of what might turn out to be a new approach to this blog, here are a few of them.

Nope, still none.

This is definitely a dahlia though.

Return of the Tyntesfield Thunderbold

You made remember - or you may not - that a set of mono images made in the walled garden at Tyntesfield during a summer visit provided a whole series of posts for this blog last year.

Well, we returned this year, for what turned out to be a fairly unenjoyable visit. As if to echo this, the beds in the walled garden had gone over and seemed in need of some attention. With the rest of the family stomping about in a bad mood, photographic opportunities were limited.

In any case, I made this image, which I'm quite happy with. I struggled to decide between the mono or the colour version for this post, however my final decision was to go mono to fit in with the set that I created last year.

The Black Dahlia

Generally, the images made using dark backgrounds  - usually paper - in direct sunlight have been pretty unsuccessful, and I haven't been able to post any that I've made.

However, you may remember that the dahlia images that I've been posting were made using a cut flower in my light tent and I decided to have a go with the black backing. This image is the result, and I'm fairly happy with it.

Actually, it was red. 

I've been pursuing my flower photography throughout the summer, but I've only got round to processing the results recently. This is another cut flower, shot in the light tent and one of a series that I'll post over the next few days.
