Reservoir Slogs

A colour image of Cheddar Reservoir viewed from Cheddar Gorge, made using a Sony Alpha 77.

An image made during a recent, rather impromptu walk above Cheddar Gorge near sunset. For various reasons, I wasn't dressed or equipped for the expedition and we only just made it down before the sun set, but I do like this image, especially the figures in the foreground, so it was probably worth it.

Another image from the Lytes Cary outing. This sparrow was sitting on our table during lunch.

Lights, Cary

Having confused Tintinhull with Lytes Cary a few weeks ago, we finally made it to the real Lytes Cary. It was a fine but very cold day, so we didn't stay all that long, but I did make a few acceptable images despite the challenging lighting conditions.

As an aside, I'm going back to posting single images for the duration of the winter, otherwise I'll run out of stuff to post pretty quickly.

Tintinhull: Insects

A few weeks ago we went to Tintinhull as a kind of end-of-the-summer outing on the grounds that we were all back in work, school, college, whatever. I'd somehow managed to get Tintinhull and Lytes Cary mixed up in my head, so I don't know what I was expecting, but I got some decent images in any case, some including insects, which were still about at that time.

Taking an Early Bath

Finally, the Kew series is done. The following images were made during a recent-ish trip to the Roman baths in, er, Bath.

I should say, because I've probably written about it on this blog in the past, and I would hate to be seen as inconsistent, that I really don't think much of street photography as a genre. But I have a general aim of including more people in my photographs and the baths themselves didn't provide much opportunity for photography, so I decided to concentrate on the people.

Who are you looking at?

I like to think that the couple in the next image - I assume that they're a couple, they're ignoring each other, so its quite likely - are actually texting each other.

Status update: I'm looking at a dead guy's backside...

Hello, is that the past?...Yeah, this is the future calling...no, I haven't been in touch with the present for a while...

Get in the Kew: Buildings

Some more images from Kew, this time focusing on the built infrastructure rather than the plants.

Get in the Kew: Cacti

Some more images from the trip to Kew. This time, the theme is cacti, in case you hadn't guessed. Again, they're in order of preference, sort of.

Get in the Kew: Leaves

Over the summer, we paid a visit to Kew Gardens. As you may imagine, I made quite a few images, and I plan to present them in a series of themed posts. This first one brings together some images of leaves, all mono. They're in order of preference, I think.

Bin Issues

During the summer, we went to Menorca and whilst there we visited Binissues (its pronounced Binithththth I think), which is like a cross between National Trust and a villa holiday, with the Menorcan natural history museum thrown in for good measure.

One of main differences from an English stately home is that the family who farmed the estate lived in one wing of the main house. I can't imagine our landed gentry allowing their peasants anywhere with sight.

I didn't take either of my cameras with me to Menorca because I wasn't planning to do any serious photography - it was supposed to be a family holiday, after all - so I used my Google Pixel 2 to make the images below.

Saltram Slam

Towards the end of August, and in an attempt to generate some more images to enter into the National Trust photography competition, we visited Saltram, near Plymouth.

As it turned out, the trip was a bit of bust for the intended purpose, although I did make one image that I eventually submitted. But I did make some decent flower images. And, in the first of what might turn out to be a new approach to this blog, here are a few of them.

Rudbeckia. Probably.

No idea.

Nope, still none.

This is definitely a dahlia though.

An image of a white poppy - there are a group of them which have been growing in our garden this summer.

Strangers on the Shore

Colour image of two figures on the beach at Burnham-on-Sea, made using a Sony Alpha 77.

This image is the result of a recent evening stroll on the promenade at Burnam-on-Sea. I noticed these two figure silhouetted against a band of light sand and made a couple of images. I might post one of the others shortly.

Eden Plant

Another image from the Eden Project, from the Mediterranean Biome this time. I took my Pen-F rather than cart my Sony DSLT around all day.
